This morning over breakfast, the kids and I were having a conversation about reading. My daughter said read, but it came out sounding like weed - which then became the next topic. I asked if they knew what weed was. My 8 year old had some long story about what she thought it was. She was wrong. My 11 year old told me that he knew that it was a drug that you roll up like a cigarette. I went into a short little speech about how smoking it kills brain cells and that I knew people whose lives were ruined from smoking too much pot. My son then asked who I was talking about and named a bunch of people whom he thought I might have been referring to. Each one he named - smokes pot. (Except for Grandma, but I think that was supposed to be a joke on his part) I was surprised at how much he seemed to already know. And then...He asked a question. I did not hear my son's voice, but the voice of his father. The phrasing and tone were exactly that of the he-ex. "If it comes from the ground and it's natural, and God made it...How can it be bad for you?" Scary. Very Scary!
