Bug-gy

I was just about to go out the door for a nice lunch date with Hubby when the phone rang. It was the principle of the school. Emily has lice. "Did you call her mother?" I asked. "No," said the principle, " She said that I should call YOU".

So, I called the she-ex and informed her about her daughter. She took the afternoon off of work and picked up Em from school so that I could keep the "lunch appointment" I told her that I had.

We hurried through lunch, went to the drug store and picked up the $30 family size bottle of shampoo and headed home. The she-ex and Emily came over so that I could help her with her daughters hair. Don't ask me why she couldn't do it herself. Don't ask me why she had to come to my house to pick out the nits. Don't ask me why she couldn't go to the store and get the stuff herself. Don't ask me why I'm such a sucker.

So...I purchased the stuff, applied it to Emily's hair, washer her hair, combed her hair, sterilized all the hairbrushes, washed EVERYBODY'S bedsheets, hats and recently worn clothes, and stood hunched over for two hours in my kitchen picking eggs out of my step daughters hair with my new best buddy - the she-ex. She couldn't see very well, even with her granny glasses and didn't have any finger nails to grab hold of the little suckers so I did most of the work. She did thank me repeatedly and although the whole thing was (and still is) a pain in the ass and I'm probably once again acting like a doormat....I felt glad to help.

The weird thing was that she offered to stay and help me comb through the other two kids hair. I think she was also waiting for a dinner invitation. I have come a long way with my attitude towards her, but I'm not quite there yet. I gently and diplomaticly packed up her things, declined her offer to "help" and walked her to the door. I feel so mature.

Although my two were both checked at school and were found to be bug-free, I am washing everybody's hair (including my own - just the thought of it made me crazy itchy) tonight just to be on the safe side.

So that was my day and will continue to be the rest of my evening. Aih yih yih
