Mr. Schatz

Randy calls his new teacher "The best teacher ever!" because he makes learning fun. He had told me that his teacher had long brown/black curly hair just like his dad. Last night was the open house at the school. I had to see this guy for myself.

This guy is...shall we say...relaxed. He was standing at the door of the classroom in shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops with his hair loosely tied back into a ponytail. I said "hello". He said "Hey."
He looks like he could be part of the he-ex's family only he's a little less biker and a little more surfer. I overheard him telling another parent about a school website that's "totally kewl" in his surfer voice. I think it's great that my son can relate to this guy and enjoys being in his class...BUT...My first impression of him was not good.

When did I turn into this judgmental adult? Just a few years ago, I would have thought that this guy rocked! I know it's wrong to be caught up in his appearance and lack of professionalism. I just couldn't help wondering how many hours it had been since this guy had smoked his last joint. I'm sure he's a wonderful teacher. I'm just having a bit of trouble respecting him. I think the hair and the laid back attitude reminds me just a bit too much of someone. We'll see how the year progresses. I really hope that my son learns something this year. I'm afraid that it's going to be a party year. Man! I'm old!
